Match report Glenmore's T20 charge continued at Riley Park on a scorching Saturday, with a powerful win over the Kings XI side.
A number of new faces appeared for Glenmore, with Gurvinder, Martyn and Reinhardt all making their T20 debuts for 2014. Each performed well and contributed well to the win. Gurvinder was his energetic self in the field, saving plenty of runs. Martyn got the team off to a good start with the bat and held a good catch in the deep. And Reinhardt bowled two immaculate overs, picking up one wicket.
All the bowlers performed well on the day, with the wickets being shared around. Manjinder was probably the pick of the attack, with his left arm swing causing problems for all the batsmen. Keeping Kings XI to just 111 was a fantastic effort, particularly when you consider Glenmore fielded with just 10 for half the overs. Some confusion over uniforms meant Pasha was unable to come on as 12th man.
Glenmore's run chase was a composed, relaxed affair. With five and a half per over required there was no need to play too many big shots. Storey and Challoner got things off to a good start, keeping up with the run rate with a mixture of good running and a few boundaries. Storey (38) in particular looked in good nick, hitting fours down the ground and square on both sides of the wicket.
The introduction of spin caused a few problems for Glenmore, with all the top five falling within 6 overs of each other. While the run rate was still very manageable, it was the loss of wickets that was causing a few concerns.
A few big sixes from the blade of Iqbal (17) helped calm the nerves. At the other end Hardeep (17 not out) was playing an excellent innings, knocking the ball around sensibly and occasionally blasting the ball to the fence.
Bijju (3 not out) came in to see Glenmore over the line with four balls remaining.
Four wins in succession for Glenmore CC and hopes of a play-off spot still within reach.
